How to Make DIY Kitchen Cleaner With Castile Soap

DIY Kitchen Cleaner Using Castile SoapIn this post, you will find a recipe to make homemade Kitchen cleaner using essential oils and Castile Soap. Start your journey to a toxin-free household!

Introduction to DIY Cleaning

DIY cleaning is a simple and rewarding way to keep your home sparkling while avoiding harmful chemicals. By using natural ingredients like baking soda, castile soap, and white vinegar, you can create powerful cleaners that are gentle on your family and the environment.

When mixed with water, Castile soap creates free-floating charged atoms that attract and capture dirt, making it an effective cleaning agent. These homemade cleaners are not only effective at removing dirt and grime, but they also help you steer clear of toxins often found in commercial cleaning products.

It’s important to understand the ingredients in any cleaning product you use, whether homemade or store-bought, to ensure both safety and effectiveness. With just a few basic ingredients and a little mixing, you can whip up your own soap-based solutions, scouring powders, and all-purpose sprays.

Whether you’re looking to save money, reduce waste, or just want a greener way to clean, making your own cleaners is a great place to start. Plus, you can customize your recipes to suit your cleaning needs and favorite scents!

You can also experiment with other ingredients to boost cleaning power or tailor your cleaner for specific surfaces, but always make sure you know what each ingredient does and how it interacts with others.

Benefits of Natural Ingredients

Switching to natural ingredients like essential oils, castile soap, and lemon juice brings a host of benefits to your cleaning routine. These ingredients are non toxic, biodegradable, and safe for use on a variety of surfaces, including stainless steel appliances, kitchen counters, and bathroom counters.

Castile soap is biodegradable and gentle on your hands, making it a great choice for frequent use. Essential oils not only add a fresh scent to your homemade cleaner, but many—like tea tree and lemon—also offer natural antimicrobial properties, helping to keep germs at bay.

Castile soap, made from vegetable oils, is gentle yet effective at cutting through grease and dirt without leaving behind harmful residues. Lemon juice is a natural degreaser and leaves surfaces smelling clean and bright.

By choosing these natural options, you avoid exposing your home to harsh chemicals, protect your health, and help the environment—all while enjoying a fresh, clean scent every time you wipe down your surfaces.

Ingredients for DIY Kitchen Cleaner

To whip up your own DIY kitchen cleaner, you only need a handful of simple, green ingredients. Start with a gentle liquid soap, such as castile soap, which is made from vegetable oils and is both non toxic and effective for cleaning.

For those who prefer a fragrance-free option, unscented liquid castile soap is a great choice, especially if you want to avoid artificial scents or have sensitivities. Add a few drops of your favorite essential oil—tea tree essential oil is a popular pick thanks to its natural antimicrobial properties and fresh scent, but you can choose any essential oil you love for a personalized touch.

Keep a little baking soda on hand as well; it is both non toxic and effective for cleaning. For those who prefer a fragrance-free option, unscented liquid castile soap is a great choice, especially if you want to avoid any synthetic fragrances or have sensitivities. With just these basics, you’ll have everything you need for a powerful, non toxic cleaning solution that leaves your kitchen sparkling clean and fresh.

Instructions for Making DIY Kitchen Cleaner

Making your own kitchen cleaner couldn’t be easier! Begin by pouring 1 tablespoon of liquid soap into a spray bottle, then add 1 cup of water. If you want a stronger or milder solution, simply adjust the amount of soap to suit your needs. Next, add a few drops of your favorite essential oil—this not only gives your cleaner a pleasant scent but can also boost its cleaning power. For those extra tough messes, sprinkle in a little baking soda before shaking the bottle to mix everything together. Make sure your spray bottle is clearly labeled so everyone knows what’s inside, and store it somewhere handy, like under the kitchen sink. With just a few minutes of mixing, you’ll have a homemade cleaner ready to tackle everyday messes and heavy duty jobs alike.

Clean With Castile Soap and Essential Oil

Castile soap is a great option if you have surfaces that could be damaged by vinegar such as natural stone tiles, marble, granite, etc. Also, some people really do not like the smell of vinegar. Castile Soap is effective and highly concentrated so it is very economical for DIY cleaners. It is also good for the environment, and most are free of palm oil or palm oil derivatives. Castile soap is a non-toxic cleaner that works great indoors and outdoors on all types of surfaces. Castile soap, made from vegetable oils, is gentle yet effective at cutting through grease and dirt without leaving behind harmful residues. Traditional soaps are often made from animal fats, whereas Castile soap is always plant-based. Destruction of forests for palm oil production is the main threat to Orangutan’s survival. To protect forests and save Orangutans from extinction, we should all avoid products with Palm Oil.

DIY All Purpose Cleaners with Castile Soap Recipes

Here are a couple of my favorite castile soap based all-purpose cleaners. These recipes can be used as an all purpose cleaning spray or all purpose spray for multiple surfaces.

All-Purpose Castile Soap and Essential Oil Cleaners

These recipes can be used as an all purpose spray for cleaning a variety of surfaces, offering a natural and versatile alternative to commercial cleaners.

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup liquid castile soap
  • 1 quart warm water
  • Optional: Essential oils (e.g., lemon, tea tree, eucalyptus)
  • Glass spray bottle

Instructions

  1. Pour the water: Add the warm water to your spray bottle first.
  2. Add the soap: Add the castile soap.
  3. Add essential oils: If using, add a few drops of essential oil for scent and/or cleaning benefits.
  4. Mix gently: Close the bottle and shake it gently to combine the ingredients without creating excess suds.

How to Use

  • Shake the bottle well before each use.
  • Spray onto kitchen surfaces like countertops and floors and wipe clean.
  • For wooden surfaces, spray the cloth rather than the surface to avoid oversaturation.

FAVORITE KITCHEN CLEANER

You can use the following recipes to clean your entire kitchen without any worry to damage any surfaces. Feel free to use any combination of your favorite essential oils you prefer. For instance, you can use just one essential oil and use 30 drops of Sweet Orange or Lemon. Or any combination as long as you use a total of 30 drops.

Ingredients:

  • 2 teaspoons of liquid soap (such as castile soap; for those sensitive to scents, unscented liquid castile soap is a great option)
  • 2 cups of water
  • 10 drops of thyme essential oil
  • 10 drops of peppermint essential oil
  • 10 drops of lemon essential oil
  • A simple recipe for a Castile soap cleaner is 1 tablespoon of liquid soap per cup of water, which can be adjusted based on your cleaning needs.

Instructions:

  • Add the liquid soap and each cup of water to a 16 oz glass spray bottle (a plastic spray bottle can be used if glass is not available).
  • Store in a dark place.
  • Gently add a few drops of your favorite essential oil for fragrance.
  • Gently swirl the bottle to combine without creating foam.
  • To use, spray on surfaces and wipe clean with a cloth.

After spraying the mixture on surfaces, use a damp cloth to wipe clean. This helps remove any residue and ensures a streak-free finish.

This cleaner is effective for spot cleaning specific stains or areas, and works well at removing stains from kitchen surfaces. For heavy duty cleaning jobs, let the mixture sit on the surface a bit longer before wiping.

There is no set rule. You can use any combination of your favorite essential oils you prefer. I choose these combinations based on the antibacterial and cleaning power of these oils. You can use any combination of oils you like!

Other Suggested Combinations:

  • Lemon & Peppermint
  • Tea tree & Lavender
  • Lemon & lavender
  • Oregano & Tea Tree
  • Thyme, Lemon & Lavender

Using Your DIY Kitchen Cleaner on Kitchen Counters

Your homemade kitchen cleaner is perfect for keeping kitchen counters, stainless steel appliances, and tile surfaces looking their best. To use, simply spray the cleaner directly onto the surface and wipe it clean with a damp cloth. For spot cleaning or tackling stubborn stains, sprinkle a little baking soda onto the area first, then spray with your cleaner and let it sit for a few minutes before wiping away. This method works wonders on grout lines and other tricky spots. Your DIY cleaner is also great for quick touch-ups and can be paired with other green cleaning favorites like white vinegar or sal suds for even more cleaning power. Whether you’re wiping down stainless steel, tile, or countertops, this non toxic solution makes green cleaning easy and effective.

All Purpose Cleaning Spray Uses

Your all purpose cleaning spray isn’t just for the kitchen—it’s a versatile cleaner that works throughout your home. Use it on bathroom counters, shower surrounds, and even natural stone surfaces (just be sure to test a small area first). It’s also handy for cleaning toilets, sinks, faucets, and wiping down high-touch areas like door handles. For an extra boost, add a splash of lemon juice or a pinch of citric acid to the mixture, turning your spray into a powerful cleaning agent that tackles tough grime. Just remember to avoid using it on waxed wood or any surfaces that could be sensitive to acidic ingredients. With this all purpose cleaning spray, you can keep your home naturally clean, fresh, and free from harsh chemicals.

Hard Water Considerations

If you live in a hard water area, you might notice mineral deposits or streaks left behind after cleaning. Don’t worry—there are easy ways to tackle this! Adding distilled white vinegar to your cleaning routine can help dissolve those stubborn minerals, making it easier to rinse surfaces clean.

For extra cleaning power, try mixing a few drops of castile soap or sal suds into your solution to cut through grease and grime. Liquid Castile soap can be less effective in hard water areas unless distilled water is used, as hard water can reduce its cleaning efficiency.

If your homemade cleaner looks cloudy or forms a precipitate, it does not mean the solution is contaminated; this is simply a natural reaction between the soap and minerals in hard water and does not affect cleaning performance. When making your own cleaning spray, use a clearly labeled spray bottle and store it safely to prevent any mix-ups.

With these simple adjustments, you can keep your kitchen and bathroom surfaces spotless, even if you have hard water. Just remember to rinse thoroughly after cleaning to avoid any residue, and enjoy the fresh, clean results.

Safety Precautions

Safety is key when making and using your own cleaning products. Always read instructions carefully and follow recommended guidelines for mixing and using ingredients like essential oils, baking soda, and castile soap. Essential oils should be diluted properly to avoid irritation, and it’s best to wear gloves when handling baking soda or soap to protect your skin. Work in a well-ventilated area to avoid inhaling any dust or fumes, and always store your cleaning solutions out of reach of children and pets. Before using a new cleaning solution on a large area, do a quick spot test on a small, hidden section of the surface to make sure it won’t cause any damage. By taking these simple precautions, you can enjoy the benefits of green cleaning while keeping your home and family safe.

Homemade Cleaning Spray With Vinegar

Vinegar is a great option for cleaning because its main component, acetic acid, acts as a powerful cleaning agent. Acetic acid gives vinegar its strong acidity, which helps dissolve soap scum, grease, mineral deposits, and sticky residues. Vinegar-based cleaners can be used on a variety of surfaces, including tile, shower surround, tub, tubs, and toilet, as well as mirrors, windows, sinks, kitchen grease, wooden cutting boards, countertops, and even trash cans. Citric acid is another natural acid that can be used in cleaning recipes for its non-toxic and environmentally friendly properties.

Note: While vinegar is effective for many cleaning tasks, it is not approved by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) for disease control purposes. Also, avoid using vinegar on waxed wood surfaces to prevent damage or discoloration.

All Purpose Cleaning Spray With Baking Soda

Baking soda is a powerful stain remover, degreaser, and deodorizer. For cleaning, simply sprinkle baking soda directly onto surfaces to tackle dirt and odors. It is especially effective for spot cleaning specific stains or areas on carpets, upholstery, and other materials.

Conclusion

Making your own DIY kitchen cleaner is a simple, effective way to embrace green cleaning and keep your home sparkling without relying on harsh chemicals. By combining natural ingredients like castile soap, essential oils, and baking soda, you create a non toxic solution that’s safe for your family and the environment. This homemade cleaner is perfect for kitchen counters, bathroom surfaces, and even tough stains, all while leaving a fresh scent behind.
